Our Story
In October 1977, an ad appeared in The Valley Green Sheet encouraging Mustang car owners to meet at Woodley Park in Van Nuys California to form a Mustang club. Ten owners showed up and agreed to form the Mustang Owners Club of California (MOCC) in the San Fernando Valley.
In the beginning the club held regular monthly meetings, and sponsored multiple events including parts exchange swap meets, picnics, cruises and weekend trips, participated in parades and other club car shows while organizing 3 annual car shows. By 1980 the club magazine called “The Running Horse” was started to keep members informed and to promote our activities. Within a few years the club had established multiple chapters from Sacramento to San Diego. In 1984, MOCC co-sponsored the 20th Anniversary Jamboree Mustang Celebration at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center in Griffith Park. This event would eventually lead to the creation of the Fabulous Fords Forever Car Show. By 1985, MOCC became a founding member of the Ford Car Club Council.
The Annual West Coast Meet Car Show brought all the MOCC chapters together for a Three-day Concours Car Show event with multiple car classes. By 1996 the various MOCC chapters would become independent, and some are still active today. Club events such as technical restoration clinics, poker runs, and other fun group events attracted more members each year. The club also became a Regional club of the Mustang Club of America (MCA). In 2009, MOCC organized and sponsored an MCA National Mustang car show in the San Fernando Valley.
MOCC has been a national leader in the Mustang World. The Running Horse club magazine has won a Golden Quill Award for excellence and in 2021 MOCC hosted its 100th car show since its creation in 1977. The club meets monthly for dinner and features guest speakers, various contests with awards and visual coverage of all club events. Please join us for good cars and great people.
The Mustang Owners Club of California is a group of Mustang owners dedicated to the restoration and preservation of the Ford Mustang automobile. We meet regularly to socialize while driving good cars with great people. Our annual car show and numerous fun activities continually support the Southern California car culture community.
